Vaillant UK is Excited to Announce it Has Been Shortlisted in Two Categories for the HVNews Awards 2019
The nominations for the HVNews Awards are both for innovative applications and uses of Vaillant heat pumps in situations where they haven’t been used before. In addition, both projects nominated have been installed in social housing apartments, so tenants are benefitting from renewable technologies that reduce their energy bills and reduce the risk of them falling into fuel poverty.
The first project that has been shortlisted is for the Collaboration of the Year category for a project with Derby Homes. This project saw Vaillant work closely with Derby Homes to install air source heat pumps on tenants’ balconies in a high rise block of flats in Derby city.
The aroTHERM heat pumps chosen by Derby Homes are manufactured by Vaillant, a worldwide leader in the design and production of efficient heating technologies. Vaillant worked closely with Derby Homes to project manage the installation of the new energy efficient heating and hot water appliances. This included liaison with the tenants, with Vaillant supplying a show vehicle to demonstrate the heat pumps and explain the benefits of using this technology. Further to that, Vaillant also trained Derby Homes staff as installers to reduce the cost of the project as much as possible. The continued support from Vaillant meant that this innovative project could be implemented with the minimum disruption to the tenant’s heating and hot water supply to ensure the process was as unintrusive as possible. In total, 54 flats were fitted with air source heat pumps on their balconies, where tenants can still enjoy usable space.
The second shortlisted project was in the District Heating Project of the Year category. This project saw Vaillant working with Bromford, a provider of social housing in Solihull. Bromford wanted to replace the existing storage heaters in a Victorian building that had been extended many times to create 24 flats. Vaillant assisted in the heat loss calculations for each flat and specified three 38kW geoTHERM ground source heat pumps to supply a centralised heat only system.
The innovation for this project was in creating a plant room in a shipping container. This meant the plant room could be installed in the shipping container off-site, and simply plugged into the building’s system once delivered to the site in New Road. The requirements for insulation and access for service and maintenance works were installed to the specifications stipulated by the installation partner J Tomlinson Ltd. As well as the three heat pumps, this ‘Energy Centre’ also had to contain two 1,000 litre buffer cylinders, twin headed brine pump and custom controls. Once the container was fully equipped it was simply a matter of delivering to site and connecting the equipment to the building. The tenants now enjoy reduced energy bills and the comfort of using renewable technologies to heat their accommodation.
John Bailey, Sales Director – Commercial and Renewable Systems commented, “We are always eager to work with installer and specification partners to design innovative systems that help them to upgrade their heating technologies. There are benefits for both landlords and tenants to installing renewable technologies and we are committed to continuing to find new ways of installing heat pumps that reduce bills and carbon outputs. We are proud to have these achievements shortlisted for the HVN Awards.”
