Vaillant Nominated as Finalist at the National ACR and Heat Pump Awards

The National ACR and Heat Pump Awards, recognises excellence in the air conditioning, renewables and refrigeration industry - awarding products, projects and distributers from eleven different categories. This year, Vaillant has been selected as a finalist for the Domestic Ground Source Heat Pump Project, in recognition of excellent collaboration with J Tomlinson Ltd and Bromford Housing Association, to deliver an innovative ground source heat pump system for nine bungalows at a site in Market Drayton.

The successful project began in 2016 when Vaillant partnered with J Tomlinson to provide a highly efficient heating system for a site managed by Bromford Housing Association. Extensive planning and research was conducted prior to the project commencing, in order to decipher the best approach and heating technology for the project. The final design utilised geothermal energy and Vaillant worked closely with both J Tomlinson and Bromford Housing at every stage of the project, to ensure that the design catered for the demands of each property and that the installation was specified and installed correctly.

The site operates on a decentralised heating system, where four boreholes provides sufficient geothermal energy to generate heating and hot water to each of the nine properties. Each bungalow features a Vaillant geoTHERM mini – the UK’s first wall-hung ground source heat pump, which is compact and has the appearance of a boiler, so is ideal for compact spaces. geoTHERM mini is also highly efficient with an ErP rating A++ (at 35°C) and incredibly quiet during operation.

With the site operating on a decentralised system, geoTHERM mini enables tenants to easily manage their energy bills and only pay for the energy they use. As a result, tenants can now change energy providers and shop for more competitive deals to regain control over who supplies their energy. Following the installation, a tenant consultation day was held to gain feedback on how the new system was being perceived. Bromford Housing were delighted to receive positive feedback, whereby some tenants found they were over £400 in credit with their energy provider as a result of the new system being so highly efficient. Tenants also reported being able to adjust their monthly payments for the first time and look at alternative energy tariffs and providers to make even further savings.

Bromford Homes will also reap the financial benefits over the next twenty years through quarterly RHI payments from the government, which provides a healthy return on investment, in addition to providing a sustainable and cost effective solution for their tenants.

The winners of the nominated category will be announced at the National ACR and Heat Pump Awards on 18th January 2018.
