Vaillant Has Been Selected as a Finalist in Two Categories at the H&V News Awards

The H&V News awards is a celebration of excellence, forward thinking and the highest achievements across the building services industry.

This year, Vaillant has been selected as a finalist in two categories - Collaboration of the Year, in recognition of excellent collaboration with J Tomlinson Ltd and Bromford Housing Association, and District Heating Project of the Year in recognition of an innovative ground source heat pump system for nine bungalows at a site in Market Drayton.

It was in 2016 when Vaillant partnered with J Tomlinson, to begin work on providing a highly efficient heating system for a site managed by Bromford Housing Association. The final design was selected after extensive research and surveillance of the site. Vaillant worked closely with both J Tomlinson and Bromford Housing to help refine the design, which featured the UK’s first wall-hung ground source heat pump – geoTHERM mini.

The site operates on a decentralised heating system, where four boreholes provides sufficient geothermal energy to generate heating and hot water to each of the nine properties. Each bungalow features a Vaillant geoTHERM mini, which has the size and appearance of a boiler, so is ideal for compact spaces. geoTHERM mini is also highly efficient with an ErP rating A++ (at 35°C) and is incredibly quiet during operation.

Decentralised systems enable tenants to easily manage their energy bills and only pay for the energy they use. Tenants can also change their energy provider and shop for more competitive deals to regain control over who supplies their energy. Once the installation was complete, a tenant consultation day was held to gain feedback on how the new system was being perceived. The tenants were very pleased and some reported that they were over £400 in credit with their energy provider as a result of the new system being so highly efficient. The flexibility to adjust their monthly payments and shop around for more competitive energy tariffs, could deliver even further savings in the near future.

Bromford Homes will also benefit from commercial RHI, which will be paid each quarter, for the next twenty years. The added benefit of being able to qualify for RHI, provides a healthy return on investment, in addition to providing a sustainable and cost effective solution for their tenants.

The winners of the nominated categories will be announced at the H&V News Awards on 19th April 2018.
